A Strong Promoter of Financial Literacy

Community First is deeply involved in financial literacy efforts in Northeast Wisconsin. We have dedicated resources to complement and expand educational opportunities surrounding our award-winning financial literacy initiatives.

Appleton Area School District Partnership
  • In-school Branches: In 2001, the first in-school credit union branch opened at Appleton West High School. Today, five student-run in-school branches bring hands-on financial learning to elementary, middle and high school students.
  • Reality Check simulations are held each semester, helping about 500 Appleton high school juniors and seniors get a taste of how it will be to live on their own and learn to make prudent financial decisions.
  • Personal Financial Management Class: CFCU worked closely with AASD staff to develop this curriculum that is now a graduation requirement.

BALANCE Financial Fitness: A free service that offers common sense advice on budgeting, debt, saving, reducing credit card balances and more.

Junior Achievement
  • CFCU has been a Junior Achievement partner for over 20 years, providing financial support and trained employee volunteers who serve as classroom advisors.
  • During the 2014-15 school year, 17 CFCU volunteers taught 21 Junior Achievement programs, impacting 468 students.

Community First has been the recipient of several awards related in part to its financial literacy efforts, including the Governor's Council on Financial Literacy Award and the Corporate Citizen/Leadership Award from the Fox Cities Chamber of Commerce & Industry.
